the Sugar Flower sisters

A last-minuted (on my end of things) entry for the "create a new Nutcracker sweet" contest over at #corps-de-ballet.

In the late 19th century, people would sometimes boil flowers in water, then use that to make a sugar dough, and sculpt tiny flowers from it. Basically, the Victorian version of reconstituted produce, only gorgeous. So here we have a sugar violet on the left, and a sugar rose on the right.

I think this pair unfortunately came out a little more "flower" than "confection", even though the sweets they're based on are technically both. The spackles flying around are sekritly sugar, though.

Anyway, I do have the feeling that this could have been a lot more epic, but I'm running out of time to submit my thing. I mean, being in Australia, I could submit it morning of Jan 1st, but I'd rather not risk all that.

Anyway, this was great fun. I must thank *satoru-13 for putting up with me constantly pestering her for approval, since I'm...not actually that knowledgeable wrt ballet? I've never even seen The Nutcracker performed live, although I really want to. I just thought the contest would be fun. ^_^;
